Save the Big Trees Mr. President

Saturday morning we went to Felton to ride the Big Trees railroad at Roaring Camp. The event was hosted by Girl Scouts. Scouts who sold more than 550 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies
were invited to participate.

Aboard the open car train... trying to dodge leaves, bugs, and debris!

After our ride and subsequent BBQ style lunch,
we walked over to Henry Cowell state park.

I love the short hike through the grove of tall trees.

And it was during our walk that we saw Teddy Roosevelt.

Wait. That's not the real Teddy!

Actually... here is the real Teddy Roosevelt...

Turns out, our Roaring Camp day coincided with the annual "Day out with Teddy Roosevelt" at Henry Cowell State Park. Many volunteers were in period dress, acting as Teddy's entourage.
Here, a local resident of Felton persuades the president to, "Talk with Mr. Muir about saving these majestic giants."

Audrey and I with some of the members of Teddy's group.

Must be fun for the kids to see all the people in period dresses. Beautiful redwood pictures!

Sounds like a good summer day trip to me!
